Colònia Sedó Museum, Esparreguera

The Colònia Sedó in Esparreguera, founded in 1846, was the first Catalan textile industry company town, and the largest to be built in Catalonia. The Colònia Sedó Museum presents the story of this huge industrial complex, individual spaces and distinctive hydraulic energy production system.

The tour reveals the history of the factory town by means of a model, while visitors can also step inside a hydraulic turbine. This impressive turbine was the largest built in the area, providing energy for the factory’s spinning and weaving sections. The visit likewise takes us inside the underground tunnels to discover the industrial building’s energy system.

The outdoor tour reveals a number of elements recreating the social life and production process of an industrial factory town: the spinning and weaving buildings, the house of the Sedó family, the canal, the Broquetes waterfall, the workers’ housing, the church, school, aqueduct and chimneys.

The Colònia Sedó Museum is one of the sites of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC).
