Fassina Balanyà Museum, Espluga de Francolí

La Fassina Balanyà in Espluga de Francolí is an old distillery dating back to 1830, restored and conditioned to allow visitors to discover the industrial process followed by grape pomace (skin, stalks and seeds) to obtain pomace brandy and other derivatives. As the building was abandoned without being converted to any other use, this meant it was left practically intact.

La Fassina Balanyà is the only distillery to have been preserved and restored anywhere in Catalonia. Here you will see the machinery and the society that ran it, and discover that reuse and recycling is no modern innovation. Within the context of Catalonia, it offers an insight into the importance of distilleries in the emergence and development of the industrial revolution, and the importance of the Catalan pomace brandy production and trade sector.

Semi-guided tour of the plant, live small-scale demonstration of distilling, and tasting of pomace brandy and home-made liqueurs.
