El Priorat is and always been a mainly agricultural region, but mining has also played an important role over the course of history, with periods of greater or lesser intensity.
During the 20th century, the mining basin of El Priorat was Catalonia’s most important lead-producing district, with the Eugènia the most important of all its mines.
Visitors can now tour some of the surface installations of the Eugènia mine, home to the Bellmunt del Priorat Mines Museum, and also venture 40 m underground into the former shafts, on a guided tour.
