Over a hundred years have passed since the old Molí del Mig in Castelló d’Empúries was turned into a modern flour mill running on technological innovations imported from Europe. La Farinera, as it is known, has now become a museum, preserving on site all the machinery involved in the industrial process of converting wheat into flour.
Visitors to the Museum have the chance to discover the flour production system, and understand how humanity has transformed wheat over its history, the importance of bread in our diet, and the role of water in providing energy.
La Farinera is a landmark of the industrial heritage of the Empordà region, a reminder of production methods between the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, representing the technology, economy and society of that period in our country’s history.
