The Capdella Hydroelectric Museum explains the origin and evolution of the Capdella power plant, the first major hydroelectric power plant in Catalonia, which began operation in 1914, as well as the social impact of electrification of the country. The hydroelectric complex supplied electricity to the Barcelona conurbation to power Catalan industry, before Vall Fosca itself was electrified.
A tour of the Museum explains how the arrival of the hydroelectric industry in Vall Fosca changed the landscape and the lives of the people living there, but above all the contribution made by electrification to the country’s industrial development, and the revolution it brought about in fields such as medicine, leisure, public transport and home life.
Guided tours of the Museum take in the different areas and machinery of the hydroelectric power plant. Visitors can also explore the outdoor complex, the transport area, the transformer station and the forge.
