MNACTEC Territorial Structure gets an identity facelift

The National Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia and its Territorial Structure have presented their new visual identity, a graphical adaptation of the brand to contemporary times, with the aim of lending the 27 museums which make up the network an image of modernity and innovation.

The starting point for the project is the concept of the MNACTEC Territorial Structure as a national museum throughout the land, playing with concepts such as territory, network, structure, industrial, scientific and technological environment, dynamism and transformation. The graphical proposition is based on the generation of a distinctive system using the square as an element with which to build up the visual identity and its constituent components.

This new visual identity is the work of Extra Estudio, a Barcelona-based graphic design studio headed by Jose Bellés and Iñigo Jerez, which recently claimed the Grand Laus 2020 graphic design award, and two Laus Bronze awards. Extra Estudio won the competition to undertake the project, organised jointly by the MNACTEC and the Association of Art Directors and Graphic Designers (ADG)-FAD in July 2019. A total of 64 graphic design studios and freelancers took part in the tendering process.

MNACTEC’s current visual identity was created in 1984 by the designer Enric Franch and his team. This same team of designers subsequently created the logos for the different members of the MNACTEC Territorial Structure.
