The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) focuses on showcasing scientific, technical and industrial knowledge and heritage, with a particular emphasis on their social impact.
It preserves the most important tangible records of humanity’s technical ingenuity, as well as key exhibits invented or manufactured in Catalonia.
The headquarters of the MNACTEC are housed in one of the most notable buildings of Catalonia’s industrial Modernist era: the Vapor Aymerich, Amat i Jover factory. This is a former textile mill in Terrassa, designed by the architect Lluís Muncunill and built between 1907 and 1908.
The main hall of the former factory is home to the exhibitions covering the textile industry, transport, the evolution of information technology, industrialisation and energy. The basement floor offers visits to the coal stores, the chimney, the boilers and the factory’s former steam engine, two open-air spaces intended for children, and an area featuring projects linking the creative arts to science and technology.
