Salvador Claret Automobile Collection

This impressive collection is made up of over 200 national and foreign automobiles, aviation material, motorcycles, velocipedes and engines, with the most important and emblematic models on display.

The visit

Founded by Salvador Claret i Naspleda (1909-1984), this automobile collection has more than 400 vehicles on display: cars, motorcycles, velocipedes, bicycles, tricycles, stationary engines and aviation material. These include six unique automobiles which belonged to important figures including Franco, La Cierva, Picasso, Madeleine Carroll, and the Woevodskys.

History

In the late 1950s, Salvador Claret acquired a 1923 Ford model T automobile, still in very good working condition. Nevertheless, he took it apart completely, worked on the engine and painted it black. The Ford was once more at its best and Claret used it to travel almost every day.

His success with this first vehicle spurred him on to acquire other automobiles and to use several of his vehicles to take part in automobile and motorcycle exhibitions, adding to his collection, which is preserved in Sils. The amount of automobile material he has recovered or has collaborated in researching and recovering is the most important body of work on the subject in Catalonia.
