TS Museums generate 2.14€ for every 1€ of public investment

Data were obtained from an economic impact study carried out by ESADE for the MNACTEC Territorial System

The museums of the [sistema.mnactec.cat]Territorial System of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) have generated 2.14 euros for every euro invested by the Public Administration in 2017. In 2017 the profits generated by these museums mostly translated into expenditure in hospitality (49%), transport (42%) and commerce (9%).

As regards employment, the report concludes that the activity generated by the museums of the Territorial System of MNACTEC in 2017 is equivalent to 254 jobs.

These data were provided by the Study on the economic impact of the museums of the MNACTEC Territorial System, carried out by ESADE – Research Group on Tourism Management (GRUGET), which analysed 17 of the 26 museums of the Territorial System. This report follows another study carried out in 2016 examining the impact of MNACTEC in its area of influence.

The overall amount which the Public Administration invested in 2017 and the current expenditure of the 17 museums of the MNACTEC Territorial System analysed in the study was 6,236,782 euros. This public investment in the museums has generated an economic impact of 13,368,000 in the region.

 

26 museums to discover industrialization in Catalonia

The MNACTEC Territorial System is a network of 26 museum and heritage centres explaining the process of industrialization in Catalonia through their collections, exhibitions and the onsite museumizations of the different production activities which have existed.

The Territorial System is currently made up of the following museums:

  • High Pyrenees and Aran: Capdella Hydroelectric Museum, Museum of Gerri de la Sal and Àreu Sawmill.
  • Barcelona: MNACTEC, Museum of the Sedó Colony in Esparreguera, “La Rajoleta” Museum in Esplugues de Llobregat, Catalonia Railway Museum in Vilanova i la Geltrú and Roca Umbert Thermal Power Plant in Granollers.
  • Central Catalonia: Capellades Paper Mill Museum, Igualada Leather Museum and Anoia Regional Museum, Museum of the Ter (Manlleu), Museum of Technology of Manresa, Castellar de n’Hug Asland Cement Museum, Cercs Mining Museum, Museum of the Vidal Colony in Puig-reig, Turnery Museum (Torelló) and Cardona Salt Mountain Cultural Park.
  • Girona: Museum of Cork of Palafrugell, Ecomuseum-Flour Mill of Castelló d’Empúries, Salvador Claret Automobile Collection in Sils and Palau Forge in Ripoll.
  • Lleida: Museum of Agricultural Mechanization Cal Trepat in Tàrrega and Museum of Oil in Catalonia in La Granadella.
  • Tarragona: Bellmunt del Priorat Mine Museum and Balanyà Distillery in l’Espluga de Francolí.
  • Terres de l’Ebre: Railway Museum in Móra la Nova.
